This is a piece I created on a Linoleum piece, to carve through it I used a Lino cut tool, which would scratch/cut out the linoleum in strips.I had to make sure i made the parts i cut away deep enough so that it wouldn't print the parts i wanted blank.
This is the print i created by rolling black ink onto my lino piece, making sure there is enough ink otherwise my print wouldn't work properly and have blank areas.
I used black ink as i thought this made my castle design more bold and show my design clearer. My design was based off an image of a castle my friend had taken while on holiday. As you can see some of my cuts weren't deep enough or the same level so it had caught the ink when i had rolled it across.
In order to print i placed my lino piece flat down, to make sure it had printed properly I applied pressure by rolling a clean roller over the back a few times. This was my finished result.
For my second print i used black ink again but this time i created a background with red tissue paper to print onto to make my design more interesting. This was my final result, the black ink went well.
These were some other lino prints i had created, i cut 2 pieces so i could build up layers of colours in steps. For the first piece i could away most of the pieces to get a bit of colour of the leaf and stem of the flower design. For the second piece i cut away the parts i had left coloured last time, meaning that the colour i first printed would stay and the next one would be a different colour, making the design different and colourful. To try and make the designs match up very similar, i traced the design onto both lino pieces and carefully followed around the lines i had drawn.
These were the other designs i had drawn for me to try and do on my lino pieces, i decided on the right hand side traced flower to do as the others didn't seem to have much areas where i could change the colours.
These are the coloured prints i had produced with my 2 different lino cuts, i tried to line up my designs the best i could by using a guideline sheet where i had traced the size around my cuts. To print my designs i first printed the first layer onto my white paper, then after i had printed my first one, i place my other lino piece on top of the paper, lining it up the best i could. This was my finished result.
For this i tried to include more than 2 colours, for this I blended 2 inks together. The 2 colours I rolled together were Pink & Purple this contrasted nicely with the colour green. I could have lined up the design better to make it look neater.
I did the same with this design but for this i blended the 2 colours light blue and i made a darker blue by adding a bit of black.
Heath and safety-
> Avoid slipping with the lino cutting tool as the blade is sharp and can cause severe damage to limbs if caught heavily.
> Always use a wooden block to keep lino in place when cutting, as slipping can end in accidents.
